All Loktak Lake Area Fisherman Union Manipur (ALLAFUM) in association with People’s Resource Development Association, Bishnupur, Environment Support Group, Bangalore, and Indigenous Prospective Manipur observed World Wetlands Day 2022 at Champu Khangpok Floating Village, Loktak Lake observed on Wednesday.
The World Wetlands Day 2022 was also observed at Lairampat Heirok Part-III by ENVIS Hub Manipur, All Heirok United Club Association and Eco-Network Heirok under the theme ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’.
The event was attended by assistance conservator of forest N Munal Meitei as the chief guest, All Heirok United Club Organisation (AHUCO) convenor Roshan Thounaojam president, Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) Manipur president Rabi Takhellambam as the guest of honour.
N Munal Meitei expressed that attempts made at saving and reviving the dying wetlands would surely become successful. He stressed that deforestation and loss of greenery are closely connected with the loss of wetlands.
“Wetlands have been providing us with advantages and benefits on a large scale. They play a major role in climate control,” he said. Keeping these in mind, efforts should be given to save the wetlands which are dying, he said, adding that the people should never turn back from the mission they had taken up to save them.
