World Press Freedom Day 2023: Shyamkishor Keisham receives Thiyam Premkumar Award

Shyamkishor Keisham is the editor of 'Mannaba', a local daily eveninger.

Thiyam Premkumar Award, which is given annually by the Sahitya Thoupang Lup, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, was conferred on Shyamkishor Keisham, who is the editor of Mannaba, a local daily eveninger on Wednesday.

The award ceremony at Manipur Press Club witnessed the attendance of Editors' Guild Manipur vice president Aribam Robindro Sharma and president of Manipuri Literacy Society Nongmeithem Kirankunad as the presidium members.

Speaking at the event, Aribam Robindro recalled an era when newspapers were printed by using type metal. He recalled the development of newspapers by printing using new technologies and hardships faced during the type metal period.

He further stressed on the importance of observing World Press Day and appealed to AMWJU and Editors' Guild Manipur to continue observing the day ahead.

He further recalled how Thiyam Premkumar took a vital role in setting up the Manipur Information Centre in New Delhi in 1981. He recalled Premkumar as a person who dedicated his life in the field of journalism.

The award included Rs 10,000 in cash, a citation and a stole.
