Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal in collaboration with Youth Empowerment and Development Society Moijing, observed World Population Day at Panchayat Ghar, Moijing on Monday.
The day was observed with the theme, ‘A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient feature of all- Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all’.
Resource person Dr Mustaque Alish highlighted the growing problems that come with a growing global population. “Overpopulation is a crucial issue, especially considering that world resources are depleting at an unsustainable rate. Awareness about the effects of overpopulation on development and nature is emphasised,” he added.
Similarly, NYK Chandel also observed World Population Day today at the Rumpi VLF office.
An essay writing competition on the topic, ‘Measures to control overpopulation in our country’ was conducted as part of the programme.
