Expressing shock over the news which was circulated in the media of Chief Minister N Biren Singh holding a meeting with WMC leaders, the World Meetei Council on Saturday clarified that the council has never held such a meeting with the chief minister.
A release jointly signed by WMC Assam Unit President, Thaunawjam Brajamohon; WMC Delhi Unit President, N Manichandra; WMC Manipur Unit President, Urikkhibam Kunjo; WMC Nagaland Unit President, Sanjoy Khaba; WMC Tripura Unit President, Ngangom Naobi and WMC Myanmar Federal Unit general secretary, Mukhom SiThuSoe Angomcha, denied the statement made by the CM of meeting WMC leaders.
It asserted that WMC has been seeking appointment with the Chief Minister ever since 2022, but there has been no response from the CM office or the chief minister himself till date. It mentioned that there have been repeated incidents of individuals impersonating the council and spreading fake news recently. It said that the latest news has shed light on the situation.
It lamented that the same has maligned the image of WMC, amid the endless toils by the council along with women vendors of the Ima Markets, students, athletes and the public for inclusion of Meetei in the ST list before the 2026 delimitation, the release mentioned.
It reiterated its appeal to the chief minister to send the two needed reports for inclusion of Meetei in the ST List without further delay and urged not to encourage the disinformation campaign carried out by some individuals to damage the council’s reputation.
