World Book and Copyright Day observed

Manipur University librarian in-charge Ch Ibohal singh emphasised that technology was not antithetical to library and its associated culture.

Manipur oined the rest of the globe in observing World Book and Copyright Day under the theme ‘Read Your Way’ on Tuesday with an observance organised by the Department of Library and Information Science, MU at Manipur University, Imphal.

On the occasion, DMU vice chancellor N Rajmuhon highlighted the value of books as composite repositories of wisdom, knowledge and culture.

Meanwhile, Manipur University librarian in-charge Ch Ibohal singh emphasised that technology was not antithetical to library and its associated culture.

He further highlighted Manipur University’s leaps in digitising the library. “We should develop connections between people and the library,” he added. He further extended gratitude to all the participants and organisers for making the event a grand success.

Manipur University Library Publications, including the Index to Periodicals Subscribed 2023-24 and Manipur University Library Annual Additions 2023-24 were also released during the observance. The publications have been uploaded on the university website for easy accessibility and dissemination.

It may be mentioned that UNESCO declared April 23 as World Book and Copyright Day with the objective to promote reading, publishing, and protecting intellectual property through copyright laws.

It highlights the importance of respecting authors’ rights and the value of creative expression in all its forms. Assistant professor of the department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University K Sangeeta, MU staff, scholars and students were also present during the observance.
