On the occasion of World Bicycle Day 2022 on Friday, over hundred cyclists from Churachandpur district took out a rally to support the ongoing state government’s ‘War on Drugs’ and against poppy cultivation besides holding a tree plantation drive which was flagged off at Hiangtam Lamka Public Ground by SP of Churachandput Mr Shivanand Surve.
The Cycle Rally, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was jointly organised by the Churachandpur District Administration, Churachandpur District Police, Churachandpur Forest Division and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Churachandpur.
After covering about 8 km towards the north along the Tiddim Road, the rallyists reached their destination, Saihenjang village Playground and took part in a tree plantation at Saihenjang village where tree saplings were provided by the Forest Department. The SP, other ranks and files of Churachandpur Police also took part in the plantation drive.
The rally, back to its route, then culminated at Peace Ground, Tuibong.
Speaking on the side-line of the rally, Dy Director of NYK Mr. H Doungel said that the objective of the Rally was to spread awareness and sensitise the public on the adverse impacts of poppy cultivation and harmful effects of drugs. He added that it was also aimed to inculcate a sense of healthy, fit and drug free life among the youth.
Meanwhile, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal celebrated ‘World Cycle Day’ by organising a cycling event at Salungpham Kangyenbam on Friday.
NYK Thoubal in collaboration with Salungpham Youth Association (SYA) organised the ‘World Cycle Day’ at Salungpham Kangyenbam, Thoubal district.
During the event, panchayat members of Ward No VII Maibam Robindro Singh flagged off the cycling event at 8 am, in which about 70 cyclists rode all the way through Salungpham Ring Road.
