Tamenglong Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted Athletics meets at Thiulon village in Tousem subdivision of Tamenglong district and Savio High School in Awangkhul in Noney district on Tuesday.
The events were conducted on account of the World Athletics Day to promote sport and its values of participation, unity, peace and fair play, as per the Assam Rifles adjutant. More than 500 people were a part of the event.
At Savio High School Awangkhul village, the event commenced with a march past by the students and culminated with a volleyball match. Various other events like 100 metre dash, shot put, football match and long jump were also organised as part of the conduct.
The World Athletics Day transcends the realm of sport, serving as a platform to advocate for causes like peace and equality.
It reinforces the positive power of athletics and its ability to make a difference beyond track and field. In a bid to foster a sense of community and belongingness, Assam Rifles took the initiative to conduct the events. The participants embodied the core values of sport, including perseverance, discipline, fair play and team work.
