Workshop held to promote post cocoon activities

Director of Sericulture, Bidyarani Ayekpam said the workshop is organised to familiarise with new technologies.

A one-day workshop on post cocoon activities under Integrated Sericulture Development Project (ISDP) of NERTPS was held on Thursday to promote post cocoon activities by providing infrastructure, capacity building at the Directorate of Sericulture office, project management complex, Sangaipat. It was organised by the Directorate of Sericulture, Manipur.

During the inaugural session, director of Sericulture, Bidyarani Ayekpam said the workshop is organised to familiarise with new technologies. North-East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) is an umbrella scheme implemented in project mode to promote the textiles industry in the North-East Region (NER) by providing infrastructure, capacity-building and marketing support to the industry, she said.

The scheme will cover the entire value chain in Textiles, Apparel & Garmenting, Technical Textiles, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Sericulture, Powerloom, Jute and allied fibres. The expenditure will ordinarily be shared between the Ministry of Textiles and the implementing agency nominated by the state in the ratio 90:10, the director informed.

The programme was attended by secretary of Sericulture, Shailesh Kumar Chourasia and Scientist-D and head of RSRS, Y Debraj.

During the technical sessions, Scientist-D, RSRS, L Somen and Scientist-D, CSB, Kariyappa spoke on the Post Cocoon sector. Assistant director of Sericulture, S Lakshimai Devi spoke on post cocoon and post yarn sector. Scientist- D, CSB of Bangalore, HH Shambulingappa spoke in post cocoon weaving.
