‘Won’t vote if we can’t return home’

Women inmates of Wangoo Relief Camp, Manipur urged the government to hold the election only after the inmates of the relief camps have been settled back in their respective homes.

Women inmates of Wangoo Relief Camp expressed that they will decline from exercising their rights in the upcoming Lok Sabha election if the government fails to let them return to their respective homes as they have been facing great inconveniences in the relief camps.

An inmate of the relief camp questioned the government when they will be able to return back home and also urged to hold the election only after the inmates of the relief camps have been settled back in their respective homes.

Inmates of Serou, Napat and Tangjeng along with the Meira Paibis of Moreh carried out a protest rally against the Lok Sabha election on Sunday night. A protestor recalled that Kuki terrorists attacked Serou Napat area and set ablaze the houses in the area on May 28, 2023 at around 4.24 am.

People of the area who fled to safer areas from the attack have been taking shelter in relief camps opened at Wangoo, Nungoo and Chairel since then.

Meanwhile, Leisangthem Meira Paibis and Khekman GP Ward number 1 Meira Paibis of Thoubal district also carried out protests demanding the same.
