The All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) on Saturday demanded befitting actions against those internet service providers and users involved in the reported misuse of internet in violence-hit Churachandpur district despite the state government’s order suspending internet services across the state in the wake of the unprecedented communal strife which broke out on May 3.

The association has raised suspicion concerning the involvement of state bureaucrats/top officials in the malpractice and demanded that the case be handed over to NIA or CBI, it stated.

It also urged Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh to take swift actions to book the culprits involved in the case at the earliest, it mentioned.

It also lamented over the alleged failure of Union Home Minister Amit Shah who recently visited Manipur to assess the situation in the violence-hit state, in making a comment regarding the issue.

The association refuted the misleading claims and reports on national and international television channels stating that the riot broke out after Meiteis deliberately burned the houses of the Kukis and termed it as completely fallacious.

It further highlighted the plights facing the people especially the students and businessmen owing to the internet ban in the state and urged the authorities concerned to relax the ban excluding social media sites.

It also condemned the incident between Manipur Police and 37 Assam Rifles in front of Sugnu Police Station on Friday and further decried the statement made by chief minister N Biren regarding the same.

It urged the Security Advisor to look into the matter and initiate actions without further delay.
