Women protesters on Friday stormed the residence of Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen in Wangjing Wangkhei in Thoubal district after staging a protest, demanding to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The protest was jointly staged by Meira Paibis of Wangjing and Wangjing Keithel Ima Lup at Wangjing market.
Women protesters stormed the residence of MLA Paonam Brojen’s residence to submit a memorandum. The memorandum was submitted to MLAs wife Paonam ongbi Shyama Devi as the MLA was not at his residence. The MLA’s PRO S Jaydeva called the MLA immediately concerning the demands stated in the memorandum, as per sources.
The memorandum demanded to withdraw the SoO agreement between the Kuki militants and India government; no separate administration unit of a different ethnic line should not be made in Manipur; to implement NRC in the state to save the indigenous people of Manipur and to take a firm stand to save the integrity of Manipur. It also demanded the MLA to publicise his decision on the demands before May 29.
Responding to the demands, MLA Brojen assured over the phone that he will be the first MLA to resign from his MLA post to save Manipur from the ethnic clash.
He stated the legislators are not neglecting the current issue and they have already warned the Central government of the matter. He also said that to wait and watch concerning the central government will take up. He appealed to the people to have faith in the MLAs.
Taking part in the protest before reaching the MLA’s residence, protester Laishram Shanti said that the 10 Kuki MLA’s have been demanding a separate administration to destroy Manipur. She also condemned the remaining 50 MLAs for allegedly remaining silent on the issue.
‘Save the territorial integrity of Manipur’, ‘Go back illegal immigrants’ and many more placards were displayed during the protest.
