Churachandpur police on Sunday arrested a person and seized a huge amount of suspected brown sugar and suspected WY tablets from the residence of Jordan Veng, New Lamka Vengnuam South in Churachandpur.

Sources said that upon receiving reliable intel that one Melody Vungnemkim, 45, wife of T Kamsuanlian from Jordan Veng, New Lamka Vengnuam South was selling illicit drug items at her residence, a team of Churachandpur police led by Churachandpur OC, WPS OC and SI S Lianlian rushed to the residence.

After a gazetted officer who was a medical officer had also arrived at the residence, the police team commenced house search and found one transparent polythene containing suspected brown sugar and ten cans of tobacco ‘Khaini’ containing suspected brown sugar along with 198 tablets of suspected WY, it informed.

On weighing, the suspected brown sugar contained in the transparent polythene weighed 10 grams, including the weight of the polythene and the suspected brown sugar contained in the 10 cans of tobacco ‘Khaini’ weighed 10 grams, excluding the weight of the tobacco cans, it mentioned.

It maintained that the recovered suspected drugs were wrapped with a white cloth, packed and sealed using a facsimile in the presence of the gazetted officer and independent witnesses. It stated that the recovered items were seized at 5.45 pm and the individual was arrested at 5.50 pm by observing necessary formalities.

A case under FIR NO.34 (3) 2023 CCP-PS u/s 21(b)/22(b) ND & PS Act has been registered for investigation, it added.
