Woman returning from funeral dies in road accident

A road accident claimed the life of a woman, who was headed for a funeral service along with her husband, at Tuibong in Churachandpur.

A woman, who was on her way back from a funeral service, was killed in a road accident that took place at Tuibong in Churachandpur on Monday.

The woman died on the spot when the two wheeler (Dio Scooty) she and her husband were on was hit by a Tata Tipper truck on Monday around 2.30 pm in front of Canara Bank, Tuibong, sources said.

The deceased (pillion rider) was identified as one Vanrammawi, wife of Darsingvung Hrangchal (who was riding the Scooty) of Shan Veng, Rangkai in Churachandpur, the sources added.

An eyewitness said that the woman died on the spot as she was crushed from the waist down by the tipper truck while her husband and the Scooty that fell on the other side were not hurt. The couple were rushed to the district hospital by the KKL through their Ambulance.

Till the filing of this report, the body of Vanrammawi was kept at the Churachandpur District Hospital Morgue and the truck bearing registration No MN 01A -A5131 (it was on PHED duty) and the Dio with registration No MN 01 - C344 were taken to the Churachandpur police station.

The couple were said to be on their way back from a funeral service in a nearby village when the mishap took place, a member of the deceased family said.
