Manipur Water Resource Minister Awangbow Newmai on Wednesday assured the House that the Canal No 1 and 2 of the Imphal Barrage will be repaired before the rainy season.
He was responding to a starred question by MLA Kh Loken who said that Canal No. 1 and 2 of Imphal Barrage would be damaged during the rainy season if not repaired before the season.
MLA Loken put up the starred question in the assembly on Wednesday in connection with Imphal Barrage. He said that due to construction of Imphal Barrage, water supply is short in surrounding villages and urged for alternative arrangements.
He also said that no work has been seen from the Hydro Mechanical Component in the barrage.
Water resources minister, responding to this, said that two companies are working on it. For the civil work component of Rs 44.56 crore, M/S Keystone Infra Private Limited has been working from June 24, 2021 and it will take three years to complete. For Hydro-Mechanical Components of Rs 44.11 crore, M/S OM Metals Infra-projects Limited has been working from March 26, 2022 and it will also take three years to complete, the minister informed.
Regarding the two canals, the minister said that minor repairs of Canal No.1 and 2 of Imphal Barrage were done in July 2021 and there is a target to renovate them. He informed the House that repair of river banks of Tarang Stream at Kh Ibohal mapa, Kakching Khunou and Tarang River at Tarang Bazar Maning will be made.
The minister also clarified that due to some problems on design of locks under hydro-mechanical components, redesign is going on and after completion of redesign it will be submitted to CWC. He will try for completion as soon as possible, he said.
