A day after winning the election, Manipur Chief Minister on on Friday expressed his gratitude to party leaders and said that the state BJP will now embark on new journey to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to further the developmental work in the state.
“Words will fall short to thank Hon’ble Union Minister, Sh.@byadavbjp Ji for his tireless efforts to ensure the decisive victory @BJP4Manipur has achieved today. We’ll now embark on a new journey to fulfil PM @narendramodi Ji’s call to further the developmental journey in Manipur,” Biren tweeted.
Biren and his party BJP created history with a record win of 32 seats in the 60-member 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election. Biren retained his stronghold Heingang AC with a record fifth time win. He defeated his rival Congress candidate P Sharatchandra from Heingang constituency in Imphal East, by 18,271 votes, as poll results were declared on Thursday. Of the 31,596 total votes recieved in the constituency, Biren won 24,814 votes (78.54 per cent), while Sharatchandra recieved 6,543 votes (20.71 per cent), according to the ECI data.
In another post on Twitter, Biren thanked Defence Union Minister Rajnath Singh for always keeping Manipur close to his heart.
“I’m thankful to Shri @rajnathsingh Ji, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri for your continuous support all throughout. Shri Rajnath Ji would always call me to inquire about the wellbeing of the State and the party. Thank you for always keeping Manipur close to your heart”.
The Union Defence minister termed the BJP's victory in Manipur "extremely special".
"The BJP’s victory in Manipur is extremely special. It reaffirms the people’s unwavering faith in the pro-people policies of Sh.@narendramodi and the State Government under Sh.@NBirenSingh. I thank the people of Manipur for their support & laud the efforts of party Karyakartas," Rajnath Tweeted.
