Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has given his assurance to book the culprits involved in the pre-poll violence that took place in Heirok within two days.
Brother of the deceased, N Roshan alleged that Thokchom Bishorjit alias Pruto who is the brother of MLA, Th Radheshyam is the main culprit. On the other hand, Pruto said that he will accept any punishments given under law if found guilty, or else he will take necessary steps under law against the attempt made to defame him.
Ningthoujam Rohit was shot dead while his father N Premchandra was left critically injured during a pre-poll violence that occurred on Tuesday night.
Advisor of the joint action committee formed in connection with the incident, Moirangthem Rajmani Singh said Singh has assured to book the alleged culprits within two days.
He said people of Heirok are in a panic situation as pre-poll violence has rocked the village. “The JAC and family members came to meet the chief minister to save Heirok. We gave the names of the alleged culprits not by hearsay but from the statement of Premchandra and from the eyewitness accounts of the incident. The allegation was not made to gain any political mileage,” he said.
Responding to the media outside the CM's bungalow, he said if the government fails to fulfill the assurance made by the chief minister, then intensified agitation will follow.
Pointing out that late Roshan was a student, he said that as appropriate punishments are given by the court in other cases, the culprits involved in the incident should be punished under law in a similar manner.
He said the family members will accept the body for his last rite, since the chief minister has assured to book the alleged culprits. He further said if the government fails to act, then necessary steps with support from various student bodies will be started.
After conducting an autopsy at JNIMS, the family members collected the body for conducting the last rites.
Meanwhile, Th Bishorjit alias Pruto who is the youngest brother of MLA Th Radheshyam clarified that the allegations made against him are baseless, and he was not involved in the incident. He said that he was at his residence with his family when the incident took place, and he strongly condemned the charges that he shot Rohit and his father.
He further said that if he is found guilty, then he will not make a run but will accept any punishment given by the court or by the people of Heirok. “If the allegations are wrong, then I will take necessary steps under the law for attempting to defame me,” he said.
