‘Water supply from 19 water supply schemes ceased due to source depletion’

Chingkhai Ching water scheme will be reaching Cheirao Ching water reservoir within a few days and will help improve the water crisis, Manipur PHED Minister MLA Sushindro said.

Manipur PHED Minister MLA Sushindro on Friday informed the House that water supply from 19 water supply schemes ceased due to source depletion.

Replying to a starred question from MLA K Ranjit on the second day of the 3rd session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the minister said that water from Iril River can be supplied for three months and one month from Imphal River if there is no rainfall. Since the water supply schemes ceased, the state government is supplying water to the general public through water tankers, the minister added.

The minister informed that Thakhel water supply scheme, which was defunct, has been revived successfully by adopting bore well water supply system.

Supplementing his question and the reply by the concerned minister, MLA Ranjit stated that the water supply through tankers is yet to reach some corners and appealed to the government and the concerned minister to look into the matter.

And to MLA Ranjit’s question on ‘Har Ghar Jal’ as to whether the water is supplied daily or if there is any gap, the minister replied that water is supplied three days in a week.

The water supply schemes which have stopped supplying water  at Churachandpur district are Augmentation of water supply scheme at S Sehken; Augmentation of water treatment plant at Saikot; Construction of water treatment plant at Lamlai. In Imphal East, they are Sabungkhong WSS and Seijang WSS; Lambal WSS, Sekmai WSS in Imphal West; WS scheme at Thawai and WS scheme at Phungyar in Kamjong; WSS at Tuolbung-Khoken-Upper Kharkhuplien-Thingpan-Moulkhangthol in Pherzawl;  Wairangba-I WWS, Kaikao WWS, Pumram WSS in Tamenglong and Ningthem Pukhri WTP and Chanchipur WTP at W/S Maint Division-II two.

The minister added that due to deforestation the source of water is depleted.
