General secretary of the Kanglei People Against Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (Kanglei Panas) Wahaj Fundrei on Wednesday said that the prevailing conflict in Manipur may eventually come to an end, but the War on Drugs will go on unless a strategy is involved.

He was speaking at the observation of the Kanglei Panas’ second foundation day at Manipur Press Club.

“The conflict in Manipur has affected each and everyone, but it will end one day. While the War on drugs has just begun. The ways and strategies for protecting the future from drugs are highly required,” said Wahaj.

At such hard times, cases of drug seizures have not stopped in the state. Before the conflict in the state, the authorities could destroy poppy plants but they are now unable to do so, he said, adding, poppy cultivations have been harvested successfully.

“It is time to make strategies for war against drugs to protect our future and our state,” he said.

Manipur University professor Chinglen Meisnam raised concern that the prevailing situation may cause huge losses to the state economy. According to the latest reports of budget and price hike in India, Manipur is on top in price hike, he said. It will affect both the rich and poor, he added.

Drawing attention toward the prevailing scenario, the professor said that everyone wants to become a teacher, not learners and not listening to each other.

While the fertility rate is decreasing, the founding of groups and organisations are increasing, he said. Those groups or organisations that do not learn from the public will no longer exist, professor said, adding that learning from the people is highly necessary.

The function was attended by Kanglei Panas president, Elangbam (O) Ibempishak Leima and members of Kanglei Panas.
