Waithoupat encroachers to be evicted

All illegal encroachments within the Waithoupat water body area are to be evicted by 3.30 pm of August 4.

Lilong sub divisional officer (SDO) on Monday notified all the illegal encroachments within the Waithoupat water body area to be evicted by 3.30 pm of August 4, and cautioned eviction without further notice on failure to comply.

A notice issued by Lilong SDO Angom Shijalembi Chanu stated that the Thoubal deputy commissioner is directed vide letter no. 10/65/Rev/DC (TBL)/2012 dated July 20, to enquire about removal of the illegal encroachments including fish farm/ commercial fish farm in the Waithoupat water body area. The SDO has been directed to carry out the eviction of the illegal encroachers on Waithoupat under sub-deputy collector, Lilong, it added.

It also directed the unauthorised occupants such as fish farms, fencing and ring bund etc. in Waithoupat water body area located at east of Tangjeng Ching, Thoubal district to be vacated by 3.30 pm of August 4. Failing to comply will lead to removal of the encroachments without further notice, it cautioned.

It may be recalled that on June 12 the state government demolished 69 houses which illegally encroached the Waithou Protected Forest Area. The illegal encroachments at government estate lands around Waithoupat may also be evicted soon, acording to sources.
