According to the VVS, the MLA had reportedly suggested that the killings between the Meetei and indigenous Kuki communities might be linked to securing two MP seats.

Speaking to the media at the committee hall of Sangbei in Imphal East, convenor of the VVS N Bobby expressed concern over the MLA statement and stated that it appears to support the Kuki community, insinuating Meetei involvement in the killing of Kukis.

Contrary to this, Bobby asserted that the ongoing unrest is a result of Kuki aggression against the Meetei, with the latter playing a defensive role.

Bobby highlighted the unfortunate timing of the MLA’s statement, considering that a whole GP under Khundrakpam AC has fallen victim to Kuki aggression.

The VVS emphasises the need for a clarification call from MLA Lokeshwar to address the concerns and sentiments of the Meetei community in the region.
