The Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union (SMSU) on Wednesday strongly condemned the circulation of an alleged fabricated news on social media by claiming an incident to be a land dispute issue among Khasi and Manipuri community in Jiribam district.
A release issued by SMSU stated that a Shillong-based media house on Monday posted “disturbing” videos on YouTube claiming to be of land dispute issue between the Khasi and Manipuri in Jiribam district of Manipur.
On examination, SMSU found that there were no incidents where Khasis were ill-treated nor threatened over land dispute issues as claimed in the video, it alleged. SMSU condemned such acts of fabricating news to create fear and hatred among different communities, it added.

It claimed that the actual incident occurred on April 2, 2023, regarding a land dispute at Khedager Gaidunlulong village between some different communities which had nothing to do with the Khasi community, it stated.
It appealed for peace among the people of Meghalaya and the Manipuri people living in Meghalaya. It also drew the attention of the state government and the authorities concerned to resolve the matter at the earliest.
It mentioned that in 2022, under the initiative of North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) with the support of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shillong visited the Khasi villages in Manipur and talked with CM N Biren for the welfare of the Khasi community in the state and to strengthen the relationship between the Meghalaya and Manipur.
