Expressing concern about misuse of EVM machines by BJP during the counting on Thursday, veteran politician O Joy Singh has appealed to all authorities concerned to prevent such activities that will demean the democratic values.

During a press conference at his residence at Kakwa, Joy stated that there are high chances of vote rigging by BJP while counting to gain thumping win in 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election. To prevent such an unwanted situation, a request has been made to enhance the security measures at DM College campus where vote counting will be carried out, he said.

Referring to an incident in Uttar Pradesh, Joy, who is also Congress candidate from Langthabal constituency, said that there was a report wherein chief minister of UP had requested to reschedule vote counting in his state for the constituencies where chances of winning the seat was low. As such, even in Manipur, BJP may try to adopt all possible illegal means to form a government, he alleged.

Except for the BJP, all other parties are in high tension and are worried about illegal methods while counting votes, he stated while suggesting that authorities concerned should not allow a single EVM engineer to enter the vote counting room. The engineers should not be allowed to touch the EVM and the suggestion has been made in the interest of the larger interest of the public, Joy said.

The veteran politician also criticised the BJP government stating that the true colour of the party would be revealed in the election result if the the poll was conducted without any unfair means. People are fed up with this government yet the party is putting all effort to bring back their government by any means. It is high time that this government is dethroned from the state, the Congress leader said.

While condemning the BJP for getting support from militant groups, he said that BJP getting support from militant groups who are in suspension of operation just to gain vote is first time in the history of Manipur. Such action of the BJP also proves that this party tried to capture power by hook or by crook, he alleged.
