Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO) and National Highway Surveillance Committee (NHSC) have jointly demanded repairing of the road along Rengpang to Bishnupur and upgrading the said route to national highways within three days. The organisations warned to launch democratic forms of agitation if authorities concerned failed to translate their demand into action within the said period.
During a press conference at Manipur Press Club on Monday, chairman of NHSC Singamlung Dangmei said that with the collapse of Irang Bridge located at Imphal-Jiribam Road, Rengpang to Bishnupur road, also known as Tongjei Maril Old Cachar Road, has become an alternative route for transportation.
The condition of the said road was worsening each day but authorities concerned had never looked back after it was last repaired in 2019-2020, he added.
He further said that being people centric organisations, they continue to receive endless comments from locals regarding the bad condition of the Riangpang to Bishnupur Road that stretches around 20-30 Km. Based on such complaints, they investigated and inspected the present condition of the road and came to notice that there is no proper agency or authority to look after this road, and found many potholes and need of jungle clearance.
He recalled that RNYOM and NHSC had already sought immediate intervention regarding above -mentioned demands from the Biren-led government in the interest of the people of state. However, authorities concerned failed to do so till date, he said.
The repairing of collapsed Irang Bridge will take time. As such repairing of Rengpang to Bishnupur road and upgrading the said route is the only means to address the issue of importing goods from said Imphal-Jiribam Road, he added.
