‘Unwanted crowding delay rescue operations’

An appeal issued by Imphal West district deputy commissioner sought public support by timely information and timely sensitisation of locals and providing assistance to the state machineries.

Imphal West district deputy commissioner Th Kirankumar on Wednesday appealed to the general public to extend kind cooperation with functionaries of the state government and avoid unwanted crowding at flooded areas to ensure smooth mitigation efforts.

An appeal issued by the DC also sought public support by timely information and timely sensitisation of locals and providing assistance to the state machineries.

It has been observed in many instances of mitigation process and rescue operation, public in certain places are causing hindrances in the place of incident by overcrowding thereby delaying the mitigation process and protection of life and property,  it mentioned.

The heavy rainfall which started from May 27 onwards due to the cyclone Remal has affected Imphal West district to a great extent damaging many houses, government offices, institutes and other establishments, it said.

Many of the important rivers have been either overflowed or embankments are breached resulting in flash flood in not less than 86 localities in Imphal West district itself and in other parts of Imphal East District also, it mentioned.

The government and the district administration has been working tirelessly to prevent further damages of properties and loss of lives by coordinating with line departments, clubs, NGOs and the general public, it said.
