The Women Committee of the United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNMM) has strongly condemned the abduction and brutal killing of a woman at Keibi Heikak Mapal of Ikop Chingkhong on July 15.
UNMM, in a release on Monday, recalled that Lucy Maring of Narung village, presently residing at Langol Quarter Zone 3, was killed on Saturday. The Women Committee has been working to minimize the violence and transform the present conflict by protecting human rights, it said.
It added that the Government of India has the responsibility to protect women and children from killing, torture, rape, etc. at this peak of violence as per the International Humanitarian Law. It urged the Government of India and Manipur and all the concerned stakeholders to protect and respect human rights of all unarmed civilians.
It further urged all the concerned to refrain from killing and torturing unarmed women and children and civilians in the future. The government of Manipur must also check and monitor the civilians who are married to different ethnic communities and taking shelter in different places and save the innocent women and children from any unwanted incident, it mentioned.
It appealed to all the communities who are indulging in the violence to strictly abide by the International Humanitarian Law and to stop targeting women and children in the future.
