Unknown animal disease claims over 100 pigs in Senapati district

Veterinary minister urged to look into the issue of 'unknown animal disease' being faced by Bhaiphung village in Senapati district, Manipur at the earliest

An unknown animal disease has claimed over 100 pigs at Bhaiphung village under Chilivai Bhaiphung sub-division in Manipur’s Senapati district.

Anderson Poutau, a local of Bhaiphung Khunou informed this Imphal Free Press correspondent over the phone that over 100 pigs had reportedly died of the unknown animal disease and rendered several in critical conditions.

He lamented that his younger brother lost 17 pigs and urged the Veterinary minister to look into the issue being faced by the village at the earliest and provide remedial measures.

Sources told the IFP that no veterinary department had visited the village. The infected pigs showed bodily weaknesses, loss of appetite and died a quick death, adding that carcasses were buried.

It may be mentioned that several pigs had recently died of unknown livestock disease in Manipur’s Ukhrul and Kamjong district.
