Manipur Cycling Association (MCA) on Tuesday stated that a few miscreants have sought donations regarding the participation of Manipur State Cycling Team in national championships held in Guwahati, Assam and Nashik, Maharashtra.

MCA stated in a release signed by its secretary K Sanajaoba Singh that some individuals, who were not members of the association, sought donations from some ministers, former ministers, MLAs, CSOs and other individuals regarding the participation of Manipur State Cycling Team in the National Track Cycling held at NLIPE Campus of Guwahati, Assam from December 11 to 15, 2022 and the National Road Cycling Championships held at Sinner, Nashik, Maharashtra from January 7 to 10, 2023.

“It is also reported that the unauthorised individuals have imposed a subscription of unreasonable amounts to the participating cyclists of Manipur State Cycling Team as participation fees beyond rules,” it stated.

In this regard, the MCA clarifies that its existing managing committee, since it took over the charges in June 2022, has never sought any kind of donations from any ministers, former ministers, MLAs, CSOs and other general publics in connection with the participation of Manipur State Cycling Teams in the National Championships, it maintained.

“The achievements of the Manipur State Cycling Team in the 36th National Games held in Gujarat from September 29 to October 12 and the 2nd North East Olympic Games held in Meghalaya from November 10 to 16 were won under the management of the MCA financial support of the Manipur Olympic Association and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. MCA will continue with this practice in the future as well,” it stated.

It cautioned the people, ministers, and CSOs to be aware of such activities and to not support such unauthorised persons.

“The cyclists and the respective guardians who supported such unauthorised individuals other than the MCA which is an affiliated unit of Manipur Olympic Association and recognised by the state Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, need to be aware that they may face grave consequences during the verification of the respective achievement and the participation certificates by the Manipur Cycling Association as the MCA will not verify such documents as genuine,” it added.
