Unauthorised hoardings, flex banners removed

A PIL was filed by editor of 'Imphal Times' Ringku Khumukcham, alleging that flag poles and billboards were erected without taking prior permission from the municipality office of Imphal.

The counsel of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Friday submitted before the High Court of Manipur that unauthorised hoardings and flex boards have been removed to a great extent by Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and steps would be taken to remove the remaining unauthorised hoardings, flex banners, etc.

The IMC's report was submitted in continuation of hearing of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by editor of Imphal Times Ringku Khumukcham, alleging that flag poles and billboards were erected without taking prior permission from the municipality office of Imphal.

The order of the High Court addressed to the IMC by the PWD authorities required the Municipal Corporation to take action for removal of all unauthorised hoardings and signboards from named areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation, the counsel submitted.

After hearing the submission, the division bench of chief justice Sanjay Kumar and justice MV Muralidaran of the High Court of Manipur stated that the steps should be taken to see that the order is complied with in true letter and spirit. A reply should be filed in evidence of such compliance by the next date of hearing on February 11, the court stated.

The Court further observed that the state authorities and more particularly, the police department, should render all necessary assistance to the Municipal Corporation in the removal of all such unauthorised hoardings, flex banners, signboards etc.
