As Manipur remains engulfed in the ongoing communal conflict, Universal Mother’s Organisation (UMO) on Monday took a stand to protect and ensure the safety, security and dignity of women and children in the state.
A release from UMO claimed that women’s human rights were protected even during the Kargil War and asserted that womenfolk of the state will not tolerate any incidents of abuse or violence against women and children during the prevailing ethnic conflict in the state. It advised all to respect and protect women’s rights and dignity at all times.
The organisation further urged the microfinance, money lending firms and chit-fund operators to halt business as well as house owners to defer rent collections from tenants until the situation improves.
