The United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation (UMMWDO) has urged the state government to take necessary legal action against those who act like an authority while acknowledging ‘Nupi Lal’ freedom fighters.

Addressing the press at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal West on Sunday, president of the organisation Anwari Noor Jahan said that during the recent 24th death anniversary of Ima Ramani (one of the freedom fighters of Nupi Lal), secretary of Nupi Lal Memorial Association, Manipur, Nandalala Angomcha had told media that the committee remove a photograph of one Ima Sara Bibi, who is said to be one of the freedom fighters during Nupi Lal.

Anwari Noor Jahan said during the death anniversary ceremony, Nandalala also expressed that the committee could not find the history of Sara Bibi and due to the reason, the committee removed the photograph of Sara Bibi.

Anwari questioned how the said committee conducted research and if they have the authority to remove the photograph of Ima Sara Bibi from among the freedom fighters of Nupi Lal kept at Nupi Memorial Complex.

The members of the committee should do research widely instead of being ‘frog in the well’, she added.

During each state level Nupi Lal celebration, the role of ‘Sara Bibi’ is included in the drama and how can the committee exclude Ima Sara Bibi from among the freedom fighter’s list, she further questioned.

She appealed to the state government to take necessary legal action against those who act like an authority.
