Amid the chilly winter winds, the small hill town of Ukhrul wears a brand-new look in sync with the mood of the Christmas celebrations as the people decorated and beautified its churches, festive venues and surroundings with attractive and colourful artworks.

Youths of the district contributed to the fresh touch to Ukhrul town this holiday season, by designing Christmas trees, decorating venues and surroundings with varieties of eye-catching art works, including Christmas trees and illuminating the night with various outdoor lighting.

Christmas tree competition is one of the many features of the celebrations.

It's that time of the year for the night life devoid of Ukhrul town to come alive as denizens, peer groups and family engaged in merrymaking and bonhomie.

As schools and colleges remained closed for the year, young boys and girls happily roamed around the town and village sharing their school and college life, at the same time volunteering themselves for community social service.

The season also offers young and old alike to reflect on the year's achievements and what remains to be done while spending time together with family, friends and relatives.

In a broad sense, it brings good tidings, love, peace and unity among the different communities of the state. The festival is also equally observed and enjoyed with pomp and gaiety by people cutting across religious lines. The occasion marks the birth of Jesus Christ into the world to save sinners and spread the message of universal love, peace, forgiveness and repentance.

Another striking feature that comes with this holiday season is the rush for last hour shopping.

The season also presents a bigger responsibility to traffic police in managing and controlling vehicular movements which are already over flooded with vehicles. The influx of villagers to the district headquarters makes it more difficult as traffic police try their best to ensure free flow of traffic movements.

In Kamjong too, the Christmas spirit is high. Starting from district headquarters to village and from localities to households, the joy and the excitement associated with these festivals, which comes only once in a year, is witnessed among the people.
