UG cadres arrested, arms and ammunition seized

Police said two ZUF cadres were arrested along the National Highway on Imphal-Dimapur road.

District commando, Imphal West, arrested two active cadres of an insurgent group, Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) (Kamson faction) from Kanglatongbi Santipur under the jurisdiction of Sekmai police station at about 4.30 pm on Wednesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Samson Kamei, 42, son of Jaolung Kamei of Kambiron village, Noney district and Jona Thaimei alias Paojendao Thaimei, 38, son of late Khamdinlun Thaimei of Khoupum village, Noney district.

Police said they were arrested along the National Highway Imphal-Dimapur road while coming in a Maruti Gypsy bearing registration number MN07D- 3243 at Kanglatongbi Santipur, Imphal West district.

The arrested persons disclosed that they were members of ZUF (Kamson faction) and working under the commando of military chief of ZUF, A Longmei alias Dihem. They told police that they were coming from Dimapur after meeting with their commander.

During examination of the vehicle, one 0.32 pistol; one magazine and 60 ammunition of 0.32 were found concealed inside the hose pipe cover of the vehicle.

Further, they disclosed that the arms and ammunitions were handed over to them to be used for organisational activities.

The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Sekmai police station for further investigation.
