After over two months of silence on the Manipur violence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday finally broke his silence, thanks to the Monsoon session of Parliament and the ‘disturbing’ viral video of two naked women being paraded naked by a violent mob that has drawn the wrath of many across the country.

Condemnation for the same has poured in from all angles and these are what they said.

"The Manipur incident is shameful... My heart is full of pain and anger. I assure the nation, no guilty will be spared. The law will take its course with all its might. What has happened to daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven", - PM Modi.

“Using women as instruments in an area of communal strife to inflict gender violence is deeply disturbing. This is the grossest of human rights violations. We will give a little time for government to take action otherwise we will step in". – Supreme Court of India

“I am deeply saddened and hurt by this incident and my mind is very distressed. I cannot believe that such an incident can be carried out in my State. I am ashamed to hear that such a shameful act can be done by some people of the State to get their demands satisfied. Such a shameful incident is a matter of stigma for the civilized society”. – Governor of Manipur

“My hearts go out to the two women who were subjected to a deeply disrespectful and inhumane act, as shown in the distressing video that surfaced yesterday. A thorough investigation is currently underway and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. Let it be known, there is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society”. - CM Biren Singh

“The untimely control of violence has brought shame not only to Manipur but also to the entire nation and the world. Such a reprehensible act compromises the dignity of women and tarnishes the image of Manipur society, which is known for honouring women with high status”. – Manipur Congress

“The entire people across the state and nation are in deep shock. COCOMI team, with all its might is trying all possible means to hunt down the culprit where ever they are. The action is committed by few sicked criminal perpetrators. The entire Meetei society is in deep shame and anguish over the VDO Clip which is being shown to various national tv news channel across the nation”. – COCOMI

“The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum vehemently condemns the sickening act and demands that the central and state governments, National Commission for Women, and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to take cognizance of the offense and take all necessary measures to bring justice to the culprits”. – ITLF
