A unit of district commando, Imphal East arrested two active members of a proscribed underground outfit PREPAK (Pro) along with Rs 1 lakh from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Pebam Leirak at around 11.45 am Sunday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Moirangthem Sanajaoba Meitei, 34, S/o (L) M Premjit Meitei of Khongman Atom Leirak, Zone-IV, Imphal-East District and Takhellamabam Johnson Meitei, 32, S/o (L) T Lokendro Meitei of Kongba Khunou Mayai Leikai, Imphal-East District.
Police said that the two persons were arrested after they were detained for frisking and checking.
On questioning, they disclosed that they are active members of PREPAK (Pro) and involved in extortion of money from the general public, government offices for raising funds for the outfit. About a week ago they both went to a residence at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and made a monetary demand for a sum of Rs 1 lakh, police added.
The commando team seized two mobile phones, two Aadhaar cards and one scooter from their possession.
The arrested persons, along with the seizures, have been handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal action.
