Two arrested with imported goods

Foreign goods were seized from two suspected smugglers at Wangjing Tentha Lamkhai and handed over to a relief camp.

Two persons allegedly smuggling imported goods from Moreh were caught by locals and Meira Paibis at Wangjing Tentha Lamkhai on Thursday, sources said.

The two have been identified as 21-year-old Md Talib, son of Md Isub Ali from Sora Mayai Leikai and 29-year-old Md Aslam Khan, son of Md Abdul Aji from Sora Awang Leikai.

According to the sources, Meira Paibis and locals of Wangjing Hodamba Mamang Leikai intercepted an Eco Van bearing registration number AS01BT8839 coming from Sora to Thoubal side at Wangjing area upon suspicion.

During the checking of the vehicle, the mob seized various goods, including eatables and other home items.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines, one Meira Paibi named Laishram Tarubi said that the two individuals, during enquiry, were not able to disclose the rightful owner of the products they were transporting.

She expressed suspicion that the products were to be supplied to Kukis. She went on to say that the seized goods were later handed over to the relief camp opened at Wangjing Kodompokpi sports complex, as agreed by the two individuals.

The Meira Paibi urged the people to refrain from carrying out such insensible activities amid such a critical juncture. The two individuals have been strictly advised regarding the same and were handed over to their family members, she added.
