The Thadou Students’ Association-General Headquarters has clarified with regards to the alleged utilization of false letterhead of Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters on December 28 for public clarification and reminder stating that the term of the office of the Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters for the tenure 2019-2022 had already expired in June 2023, following which most of the executive members had resigned with the end of the term.
The TSA-GHQ’s Ministry of Information, Media & Broadcasting clarification stated that to their utter shock, the recent press release in the name of TI-GHQ was found to be the handiwork of one Lamminthang Kipgen, ex-President, TI-GHQ.
It stated that the ex-President had done that for his own vested interests and political motives and therefore, all concerned are informed that until TI-GHQ is duly reconstituted, any statement made in the name of TI-GHQ is to be dismissed as null and void.
Thus, in the absence of the functional Thadou apex body, the TSA-GHQ is forced to take up the general affairs of the Thadou tribe until TI-GHQ is reconstituted, it stated.
It also clarified that there is no apex body of the Thadou tribe other than the Thadou Inpi (TI-GHQ) and the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) was renamed as Thadou Inpi (TI) at the Thadou Conclave, Delhi-2015.
Therefore, any illegitimate claim of re-establishment of the TTC in Lamka by some vested individuals to cause confusion in the community should not be entertained, as there is no such organization to represent the Thadou tribe at any level, it clarified.
The TSA-GHQ further clarified that the TSA-GHQ’s term for 2020-2023 ended on March 31, 2023. However, on February 28, 2023, during the 65th TSA General Assembly, the House unanimously resolved to extend the TSA-GHQ’s tenure for an additional six months until September 30, 2023, in view of the mega Hun-Thadou Cultural Festival, 2023 on April 18-19, 2023.
Following this, the Election Commission of the General Headquarters (ECGHQ), TSA-GHQ, with the Chairman, Permanent Council, TSA-GHQ as the Returning Office-cum-Chief Election Commissioner, ECGHQ, TSA-GHQ conducted the general election of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the TSA-GHQ for the tenure of 2023-26 at the 66th TSA General Assembly held on September 28-29, 2023, in Guwahati.
Therefore, the election of the incumbent members of the CWC, TSA-GHQ, is as per the norms of the TSA Constitution, which is legally valid and legitimate. Thus, the terming of the incumbent leaders of the TSA-GHQ as self-appointed is only a desperate attempt to malign and defame the image of the grand old Thadou Students’ Association and its able leaders, it stated.
The Thadou student body then counseled the Thadous to exercise great courage, discernment, and wisdom in the best and larger interest of the community and in protecting the villages, the land, and social harmony at this crucial time.
