Tribal communities urged not to panic over fake comments in social media

A Facebook account in the name of one M Premjoy Meitei inciting violence and creating panic among tribal communities was found fake.

Amid the detection of fake Facebook account, tribal communities in Imphal area have been urged not to panic and intimidated by fake comments generated in social media amid the prevailing law and order situation.

The Government of Manipur is fully committed towards protecting the lives and properties of all the tribal communities for restoration of normalcy, peace and harmony, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations said in a statement issued on Wednesday. 

It said that it has detected a fake Facebook account in the name of one M Premjoy Meitei, with comments intimidating the tribal brethren residing in Imphal city by inciting violence and creating panic and insecure feelings among the tribal communities.

The Imphal Police Station had registered a case regarding the account and after proper investigation, it was found that the Facebook account in the name of M Premjoy Meitei was a fake one, the DIPR stated.

In this connection, the tribal communities residing in Imphal area have been urged not to panic and feel intimidated by fake comments generated in social media. The netizens of the state have also been urged not to upload comments and pictures creating panic and sense of insecurity to any community, the DIPR added.
