Training programme of retailers is to inform customers about cost savings through the BEE mobile app, help consumers to make smart choice of appliances, and encourage consumers to buy star rated appliances, he said.

Further, he said that retailers should also stock star labelled products with the latest validity period and educate customers for choosing the right appliances.

MSPDCL managing director Hijam Shantikumar said that energy use by appliances is expanding rapidly in India as more people are increasingly acquiring durable consumer goods. This rapid penetration of durable consumer goods into Indian households, offices and industries will contribute significantly to the increase in electricity demand by 2030, he added.
