Locals in Imphal expressed distress over several VVIP visits, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Imphal, for the inconvenience caused to the general public in implementing the VVIP protocol. Heavy traffic-jam were witnessed in various traffic signals, where the commuters were made to wait for long hours to ensure free passage of the VVIP vehicles.

While Amit Shah was holding a high level party meeting in Hotel Classic Grande in Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai, Imphal East on Wednesday many, of the residents were denied entry to the inter-village road by the security personnel on duty till night time.

“It is unfortunate that the security personnel did not allow me to drive my vehicle in the inter-village road which leads to my home nor park my vehicle nearby,” said a local.

Several people heading home for the day were stranded on the road in the cold of the night for long hours.

“We are fed-up with such VIP culture. It seems like VIP meeting is only important. They are unnecessarily wasting the valuable time of the common man,” he added.

Another local expressed dissatisfaction on the nature of the security personnel who used harassing words while he tried to explain to them that he was heading towards his home which is near Classic Grande.

It will be better for both the common people and the VIP if they conduct their meeting virtually, he said, adding, “In their speech, they said they came for the well-being of people but in reality they came to cause inconvenience to the public,”
