A total shutdown will be imposed in the entire state of Manipur from 6 am to 6 pm on August 15, says proscribed umbrella organisation Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) on Wednesday.

ASUK stated in a release issued by convenor, publicity committee S Mangal that India will celebrate 75 years of its independence on August 15, 2022. As usual, it will be celebrated in Manipur as well, but with an additional programme called ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ during which each household will be made to hoist the Indian national flag, it stated.

The meaning of the unfurling of the Indian national flag for the mainland Indians is different from how the flag is interpreted in Manipur, it further stated.

“The date marks their day of Independence while we lost our freedom on the same day; it marks a day of pride for them but it only reminds us of how we got enslaved,” it added.

There are myriads of issues plaguing the state. The influx of outsiders posing a threat to the indigenous population; the increasing number of people who are dependent on drugs and alcohol; becoming entirely dependent in terms of economy; corruption becoming an accepted culture and its impacts; people practicing lies and deception, causing a general mistrust among the public; loss of unity and faith on leaders; people becoming selfish and hollow and society becoming spineless.

What makes it even worse is that the Education sector has become a complete failure, causing a mass breeding of reprobates who behave like viruses in a society, ASUK stated. These issues pose a serious challenge as they have the potential to cause a complete downfall of a society, it added.

ASUK further stated that the inability to come up with a concrete and practical solution to these challenges has been truly fortunate. The leaders (creative minority) are supposed to hammer out the required solution, but they along with the revolutionary groups are still unable to find the answer, it added.

The state fell into this web of issues as a result of the colonial rule of India, ASUK mentioned.  “Had it remained independent, the problems would be at least controlled if not completely eradicated,” it further stated.  These problems multiplied as the state remained a colony of India, and being a colony is the biggest problem of all, ASUK continued.  It is the goal of India that the people of this region become weak, their culture obliterated and finally extinct, it added.

The essence of celebrating colonial India’s Independence Day celebration is its power to kill the collective historical memory of the people of the state, it mentioned. It kills the real history of the people of this region and they are brainwashed by a false history, ASUK stated. Taking part in such a celebration is akin to committing suicide and one should not be a part of it, it further stated.

To make the public remember that they are being colonised and kept in fetters, all are appealed to extend support to the total shutdown, it added.
