In light of escalating tension in Jiribam district, Taragi Cheisu on Sunday demanded the authorities to tighten the security grip in Jiribam and clamp down the region with rule of law.

Taragi Cheishu also highlighted that a memorandum had been submitted to the prime minister to urgently resolve the conflict in Manipur as prolonging the issue even further would worsen the situation.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, Taragi Cheishu president Khaidem Mani lambasted the state authorities and governor for failing to mete out significant measures despite their acknowledgement of foreign involvement in the conflict.

Their apprehension to act despite all the claims shows lack seriousness and regard for the people of Manipur, he added.

He maintained that evacuation of people was not the appropriate response to violent infiltration and that more security should be deployed instead.

“This was the case in Moreh and Churachandpur. Stringent security measures are the proper response for the nature of conflict unfolding in the state,” he said.

He highlighted that the people of Jiribam felt abandoned by the state government and were considering approaching the Assam government for security aid.

He ridiculed the neutral status quo upheld by the central security force when they had been deployed to assist the state forces.

“It seems the state government has not raised these concerns to the state. Confusion politics needs to stop,” he said.

He further questioned the validity of the chief minister’s removal from unified command and added if it was just another ploy to create confusion.
