Three women remanded to police custody

The three women, who identified themselves as owners of a rice hotel located at Bora Galli, Thangal Bazar, were arrested by City Police on July 1 for selling drugs in the hotel.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Saturday remanded three women to six-daypolice custody till July 7 for selling drugs in a hotel. 

The three women, who identified themselves as owners of a rice hotel located at Bora Galli, Thangal Bazar, were arrested by City Police on July 1 for selling drugs in the hotel.

The women are Chongtham Shanti Devim, 65, wife of (L) Koijam Chaoba of Langthabal Phura Makhong; Chongtham Nanda Devi, 54, wife of (L) Sougrakpam Shanta of Changangei Awang Leikai and Chongtham Shantibala, 51, wife of (L) Soibam Robinchandra of Singjamei Chingamakha Maibam Leikai.

During police interrogation, they disclosed that the drugs had been brought from near Sora Bazar and sold at their hotel at a rate of Rs 100 in small quantities.

Police prayed for custody for thorough interrogation in order to arrest other co-associates who are involved in the crime.

The court remanded them to police custody for six days and directed the IO of the case to produce them before the concerned court at ND&PS Court on July 7.
