Three injured in gunfire by unknown miscreants in Imphal West

A combined team of Patsoi Police station, commandos and Assam Rifles carried out search operations in and around Sinam Khaithong Kuki Village in Keithelmanbi after reports of gun attack.

At least three people were injured after armed miscreants, suspected to be Kukis, fired gunshots at Moidangpok under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station, Imphal West District on Saturday around 9:30 pm.

Following the incident, the Assam Rifles carried out a search operation in the said area and arrested a person belonging to a Kuki tribe along with a gun but have not handed him over to the police yet.

The injured persons are identified as 35-year-old Deepak Thangjam, son of Th Mangi from Moidangpok Awang Leikai; 30-year-old Khangenbam Kiran, son of Kh Nabachandra from Moidangpok Maning Leikai and 23-year-old Yengkhom Naoton, son of Y Birchandra from Moidangpok Maning Leikai. All have been admitted to the RIMS surgery ward.

As per reports, people of Moidangpok heard sounds of stones being pelted at a farmhouse which rears goats and ducks around 8:30 pm on Saturday. The farmhouse is located 300/400 metres away from a canal, which is located at the back of Moidangpok village.

Villagers rushed to the spot where they heard the sound but found no one near the farm. Some youngsters further inspected the canal, which is at the backside of the farmhouse and saw some unknown miscreants fleeing from the scene.

According to reports, the three youths were injured by gunshots fired by the unknown miscreants.

A combined team of Patsoi Police station, commandos and Assam Rifles carried out search operations in and around Sinam Khaithong Kuki Village in Keithelmanbi right after the unfortunate incident till Monday morning. However, no arrest has been made so far.

However, the Kuki civilian who was arrested along with a gun is still in the custody of Assam Rifles.
