A Garbage and Solid Waste Management Facility Centre with bailey plastic crushing machine was inaugurated at the new complex of Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council in Wangjing, Thoubal by Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency MLA Paonam Brojen on Monday.
The event was attended by Manipur Development Society (MDS) chairman and Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen as the chief guest, Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council former chairperson P Roni as the president, and former councillors N Binoi, H Gourango, T Biswamitra and T Noren as the guests of honour along with Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council executive officer Awungshi Phungrei.
On the occasion, MLA Paonam Brojen said that the machine will be useful in recycling solid waste materials including single use plastics. With the inauguration of the Bailey plastic crushing machine, Wangjing Lamding Municipal became the first municipal council with the facility of solid waste management machine among the municipal councils and nagar panchayats of the state, he added.
He added that Wangjing Lamding is on its way to becoming a ‘planned city’ with the help of chief minister N Biren led state government. He mentioned that the people play a huge role in the development of a clean and healthy society, and encouraged the people to adopt a healthy and mindful habit for a clean Wangjing Lamding.
He commended the locals for the ‘Go Clean’ initiative, mentioning that Wangjing Lamding had received the title of the cleanest municipal council of Northeastern India twice.
As part of the programme, the MLA distributed authorization letters for loans under the Municipal Council to selected self-help groups of Wangjing Lamding.
