The first phase of community vaccination programme for Thoubal district began on Thursday. In all, 14 vaccination sites have been proposed in the first phase which will end on June 10.
The Concerned Gram Panchyat, Municipal Council or Nagar Panchyat and club, organisation will jointly work toegther during the vaccination programme.
Initiating the vaccination programme at Babu Bazar, Haokha of Wangkhem Assembly Constituency, Keisham Meghachandra, MLA, said that community vaccinations will help to curb the spread of COVID-19 second wave where there is no Community Health Centre or Health Centre.
The MLA also lauded the local volunteers of Kiyam Siphai Social Welfare Organisation for extending a helping hand in the vacaination programme.
Later, MLA Meghachandra initiated the programme at Yairipok Kekru. The volunteers of the Kekru Yairi Club, Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee and Kekru Youth Development Club were seen lending their support in the vaccination.
MLA Meghachandra was accompanied by District Family Welfare Officer Thoubal Dr Ksh Memcha devi.
