Tengnoupal Congress Committee president Thangminlen Mate on Thursday denied existence of any rift in the party and possibility of its members joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to the media at his residence, Thangminlen Mate said that reports about the members of Tengnoupal Congress joining BJP are false and baseless.

There is a report about BJP Tengnoupal Mandal preparing to organise a reception ceremony of Tengnoupal INC workers in presence of Manipur state BJP president A Sharda Devi at Moreh on August 20. This report is false and unfounded, he said, adding, no such thing is happening and members of Tengnoupal Congress Committee are not joining the BJP.

Clarifying over the matter, he said that there were two or three persons who were expelled from Congress party for their misconduct. They might have been planning to join the BJP, but it is not related to the Congress party as they were already expelled from the party, he said.

The members of Tengnoupal Congress Committee remain intact and will not join BJP, he maintained.

“The Tengnoupal Congress committee shall remain intact and there is no such plan of joining the BJP. Two or three persons who were already expelled from Congress might have been planning to join BJP but that is not related with the Congress, and it will not affect the Congress party in Tengnoupal district,” Thangminlen Mate said.
