Technology emphasised to boost agricultural productivity

In an Interface Meeting held at the Manipur Directorate of Agriculture in Imphal on Wednesday, Agriculture joint secretary L Geetchandra stressed the critical importance of providing farmers with the latest technology and equipment to enhance productivity and elevate the economic status of the state.

He highlighted the vital role of technology in ensuring farmers remain productive, stating that continuous unproductivity could lead to farmers abandoning their agricultural practices. The joint secretary also emphasised that due to varying environmental and soil conditions across different regions, farmers require tailored technological solutions to enhance productivity effectively.

Addressing the gap between farmers and scientists, Geetchandra stressed the need for closer collaboration and communication.

He expressed optimism that the Interface Meeting would serve as a significant step towards bridging this divide.

The event featured informative presentations by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong, and Ukrul. Additionally, an interactive session provided a platform for meaningful exchanges between stakeholders.

Notable attendees included T Panmei, Deputy Director of Agriculture, K Devadutta Sharma, Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, H Balkrishna Singh, Director of Fisheries, and Ng Ibotombi Singh, Director of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry.
