The 92nd death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was widely observed in Tamenglong district on Tuesday. Various organisations held programmes to commemorate the day.
In the morning, the Zeliangrong Union Tamenglong zone organized the 92nd death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Haipou Jadonang Park in Tamenglong district headquarters.
Leaders of various civil organizations, including the Zeliangrong Union, Zeliangrong Women Union and the Bharatiya Janata Dal Tamenglong Mandal attended the observation and paid floral tribute to the freedom fighter.
The Rani Gaidinliu and Haipou Jadonang Memorial Committee, under the aegis of joint tribe councils, also observed the 92nd death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at the Multipurpose Hall near Apollo ground, Tamenglong town.
Deputy commissioner Tamenglong Dr L Angshim Dangsha and former vice-president, Hill Area Committee Manipur legislative Assembly, Khangthuanang Panmei attended as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Presidents of Tamenglong based Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme tribe organizations attended as presidium members during the observation.
Meanwhile, Noney-based Assam rifles along with Zeliangrong Nagas and Civil Administrative came together to commemorate the day at Khoupum Valley.
The press statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles said that the events witnessed an overwhelming response of individuals from the Zeliangrong tribe including men, women and students who gathered to pay homage and celebrate the life and contributions of the visionary leader.
The statement said that the aim of the event was to acknowledge the contribution of Haipou Jadonang in the nation's freedom movement and his efforts in promoting social reforms.
As a part of the celebrations, a set of activities were organised at Gaidimjang, Khoupum valley which included wreath laying ceremony, women's volleyball match, men's football match, tug of war and a medical camp organized by a team of doctors from Assam Rifles in Noney.
