Tamenglong indefinite bandh called off for three days

The indefinite bandh called by the transport associations in Tamenglong has been called off for three days with effect from 6 am Tuesday, following the assurance given by the district administration to address the Tamenglong-road issue.

The Driver Association Tamenglong and the Taxi Owners Association Tamenglong has called off the indefinite bandh for three days with effect from 6 am Tuesday, following the assurance given by the district administration to address the Tamenglong-Khongsang road issue.

The district administration Tamenglong led by Sub- Divisional Officer Tamenglong Paul Nangsa alongwith the representativs of local MLA, members of Driver Association Tamenglong, Taxi owners Association Tamenglong, Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong district, Traders Association Tamenglong, Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd and the media team on Monday inspected the double lane construction of Tamenglong-Khongsang road.

During the joint inspection, the Driver Association Tamenglong and the Taxi Owners Association Tamenglong had pointed out the deplorable road condition and asked the district administration and the Shivalaya Construction Company to fix the potholes.

The indefinite bandh was called along Tamenglong-Khongsang road and short cut road via Bhalok and Rangkhung by the Drivers Association Tamenglong and the Taxi Owners Association Tamenglong over the deplorable condition of Tamenglong-Khongsang road. 

The Shivalaya construction company is engaged in the construction of double lane Tamenglong-Khongsang road under the supervisor of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

After the road inspection, the joint inspection team held a meeting at Khongsang village.

During the meeting the SDO Tamenglong pointed out that Tamenglong-Khongsang road is the only life line of Tamenglong district headquarters. Essential commodities in the district have been reduced after the road conditions turned from bad to worse, he said.

"If drivers continued the bandh, it will severely affect the general public," Paul Nangsa said.

Later in the evening, another meeting was held at the resident of SDO Tamenglong. On the request of the official, on behalf of the district administration, the agitators agreed to relax the indefinite bandh for three days.
