Being one of the most backward districts, Tamenglong is always granted double benefits of all the government schemes and programmes when compared with other districts of Manipur, said Disaster Management Minister Awongbow Newmai on Tuesday.

Regular funds as well as additional funds have been coming to the district, in the name of its backwardness, he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest during the nationwide interaction programme which was also conducted in Tamenglong district where a virtual interaction between the Prime Minister of India and the beneficiaries of different welfare schemes of the government was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Tamenglong.

He further announced that Tamenglong is the first district to implement the MNREGA and appealed to utilise the available funds and schemes properly.

“We should be very happy and welcome such an interaction programme which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who directly dealt with the beneficiaries and the public,” he said.

An interactive session between the government officials and the public was also part of today's programme. The government officials responded to the public queries, explaining various schemes and benefits which one can avail from the government departments.

With an aim of reaching out and helping the poorer sections, the district administration of Tamenglong along with the various government departments distributed various government schemes and beneficiaries in the interaction programme.

After the interaction programme Awangbow Newmai chaired the district level officers meeting at Multipurpose Hall, Lower Ground Tamenglong district headquarter.

During the meeting, he urged all the district level officers to share their requirements, needs and grievances so that he can present the matter directly to the chief minister of Manipur.

He also urged all the district level officers to station in their respective offices so that the public can avail any kind of information from the government offices.

“As strict instructions have been given from the CM’s Office, I will make a surprise visit to all the government offices and if any officials are found to be absent, strict action will be taken upon those officials,” he said.

During the meeting, many government officials shared the grievances regarding Office building, vehicles and quarters etc.
